Australian transport logistics company Patrick runs a large network of depots, offices, container terminals and warehouses. Ongoing acquisition means the IT network is an ever- changing map, as non-standard systems are brought into the infrastructure. Seeking a better understanding of network activity, the technical services team first bought Crannog’s NetFlow Monitor and shortly afterwards added ResponseWatch and upgraded Monitor to NetFlow Tracker. |

Digital media publishing solution provider, thePlatform, wanted to improve its understanding of what was happening on its network, particularly as it started implementing inter-VLAN Access Control Lists (ACLs) so that system administrators can control and limit how servers and clients intercommunicate.
“The functionality you get with NetFlow Tracker for the price point you pay meant the question for me was: 'Why wouldn't I go with Crannog?' I looked at other Cisco Technology Developer Program partners as well and the features they were offering and it was Crannog hands down.” - Rob Sherrard, Senior Network Architect, thePlatform

Merchants Bank of Vermont, USA, needed a better understanding of bandwidth on its 35-branch Frame Relay Network, prior to the rollout of a centralised retail banking application. The Bank bought NetWatch, NetFlow Monitor and NetFlow Tracker to provide performance metrics and enable it to troubleshoot faults.
"In just 30 minutes NetFlow Monitor enabled us to identify a network firewall problem that would have taken us a week to solve." - Paul Dicovitsky, Information Services, Merchants Bank

National serviced office provider, MWB Business Exchange Centres, needed to see what was happening on its WAN and the LANs at its 51 sites around the UK. The company bought a suite of NetFlow Tracker, ResponseWatch and NetFlow Monitor.
“Thanks to the performance tuning our Crannog monitoring applications have helped us achieve, we now only need to look at them daily when one of the sites alerts us that a customer is complaining of slow service. Then we use NetFlow Tracker to diagnose the problem. Our Crannog applications make a direct contribution to our profitability."- Mike Michael, Technical Support Manager, MWB Business Exchanges

Multi-national chemical company Huntsman needed a better understanding of the activity on its international network, in order to investigate complaints about slow response times, chiefly from users of its extensive thin-client service. Following some ad hoc work to try and identify heavy traffic flows, Crannog Software's Monitor was sourced and installed at the company's data centres. Directly following installation, managers were able to trouble-shoot the network:
"Delivery was there from day one." - Gerrit Plaisier, Global Network Architect, Huntsman.

Multinational semiconductor designer and manufacturer Micronas needed to monitor traffic on its WAN, several of whose lines were under heavy load, principally from inter-site traffic in very large CAD files. Initially, Crannog's NetWatch seemed ideal, but although it could show where overloads were occurring, it could not help identify the cause. NetFlow Tracker was then added to provide the necessary detail.
"Through our experience of NetWatch, we came to NetFlow Tracker and immediately realised this was what we really needed. We already knew about Cisco's NetFlow technology but without the right tool we could not do much with it. As with NetWatch, we really liked Tracker's simplicity and user interface." - Paul Blenderman, Manager Windows Systems and Infrastructure, Micronas.

BSS purchased a suite of Crannog's NetFlow Tracker, NetWatch and ISDNWatch to provide information on WAN link status and network activity, initially to prioritise which sites needed upgrading first, then later to identify problems as they occur.. The logistics operation of this high-profile UK fashion retailer lacked all but the most basic information about what was happening on its managed WAN, based on legacy hardware. When the company changed WAN provider to a company using Cisco hardware, it was able to have network monitoring implemented and NetFlow Tracker was eventually installed by the provider.
"I demonstrated Tracker to my manager and his superior and they absolutely loved it; they thought it was fantastic. It was the first time we'd actually been able to see what was going over the WAN links, right down to the user level." - company network engineer.
